Awlmark

The Atelier

Hello. My name is Joseph and Awlmark is my small leather business.

I am an independent leather artisan. I make all manner of items, all entirely by hand and everything is made by me in my studio in Manchester, UK. I do not use sewing machines, I do not have a team of people, and I do not outsource any part of my production. The only motor-operated machine in my studio is a bell skiver, which I use to thin strips of leather for straps and handles.

My particular style of leather craft emphasises precision and fine detail. Fractions of millimetres are the units I work in.

Everything is made to order, so I hold no stock. The pieces you see listed are pieces I have made for my clients. If you would like something specific — an item I do not have listed, a colour or a leather perhaps — contact me. I can make almost anything, and I can source a huge range of leathers and colours.

When you order from me, your piece goes into my work schedule. Lead times depend on the complexity of the piece, my schedule and leather availability. Small pieces — card holders, coin purses, passport sleeves — are usually finished in three to four weeks. Bags take around eight weeks of hand work.

No stamps but my own

I make interpretations of classic designs, entirely by hand, under my own name. I do not reproduce logos, boxes, or packaging — if that is what you are looking for, I am not the right maker. What I offer is the object itself: the leather, the stitching, the structure, made honestly and made to last.

A note on discernment

In a world full of brands vying for position, the ones trying hardest to convince you they are special are likely the ones furthest from it. Their brand is not what sets you apart. Your discernment is.
